Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović refrained from directly addressing concerns about the Serbian Orthodox Church’s historical revisionism and the comments made by Metropolitan Joanikije regarding Pavle Đurišić’s portrayal as a great hero.
Milatović expressed that his message was clear through the large celebration he organized, aimed at highlighting the importance of anti-fascist values and achievements that are the foundation of modern Montenegro.
“The struggle for freedom, justice, and equality, coupled with the quest to restore our statehood within the Yugoslav framework, form the core of the legacy left by the heroes of the anti-fascist fight in Montenegro,” Milatović stated.
He emphasized that his standpoint on this issue is unequivocal.
“I can convey my thoughts through both words and actions, and I leave it to others to make their own judgments,” Milatović remarked.
When questioned if Joanikije’s remarks represented an attempt to alter history, and whether he condemned such statements, Milatović reiterated that he believed he had expressed everything necessary regarding his positions on anti-fascist values and accomplishments that underpin contemporary Montenegro.
“Thus, my views are quite explicit,” Milatović concluded.
