“Vijesti” reported this morning that, based on unofficial sources, talks on forming a government in Nikšić have commenced among representatives of the “For the Future of Nikšić” coalition, the Democrats, and the Europe Now Movement (PES). However, PES quickly refuted the claims, stating that negotiations have not started, and that “Vijesti”‘s information is inaccurate.

“Negotiations on forming the government did not commence two days ago as you assert, and thus far, the Europe Now! Movement has not participated in any agreements regarding the establishment of local government in Nikšić,” reads PES’s statement.

Conversely, the current mayor of the Municipality of Nikšić and leader of the “For the Future of Nikšić” list, Marko Kovačević, confirmed “Vijesti”‘s claims in an interview with the RTCG portal.

“The atmosphere is positive. We have set a principle that we will not go public until everything is agreed upon. I believe the discussions will be productive, and we won’t have to wait long for the government to be formed,” Kovačević stated to the Public Media Service of Montenegro.

The representative of the Democrats, Mitar Goranović, the current vice president of the Municipality, confirmed the information to “Vijesti,” highlighting his attendance at the initial negotiations.

“The day before yesterday, we held our first official meeting regarding the government formation in Nikšić. As previously emphasized, our negotiation priority will revolve around the program goals we presented during the election campaign to the public and citizens of Nikšić. The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, where all three parties shared initial positions that will be refined in the coming days. I sincerely hope that the citizens of Nikšić will receive a stable government that will deliver positive results and address their needs,” Goranović shared with “Vijesti.”

According to unofficial reports from “Vijesti,” the meeting occurred two evenings ago at 7 PM in the New Serbian Democracy’s premises in Nikšić. Two representatives from each party attended, including Uglješa Urošević, who was second on the PES list.

In the local elections held on April 13, the coalition “For the Future of Nikšić” secured 15 seats, PES acquired five, while Democrats-Plenum 083 garnered three. The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) won 16 seats, and the European Alliance claimed two.

The Nikšić Municipal Assembly consists of 41 councilors, and if ZBNK, Democrats, and PES reach an agreement, they would have a total of 23 councilors.
