After twelve matches for Montenegro without finding the net, Uroš Đurđević turned his luck around this season, scoring twelve goals in the Mexican Clausura, making him the top scorer in Liga MX.
The former captain of Serbia’s junior national teams has not donned the Montenegro jersey since September 2023. Following his impressive half-season with Atlas, he contemplates whether he might be recalled by the “Falcons.”
“I haven’t had a chance to speak with the new coach since Miodrag Radulović left. Robert Prosinečki has taken over the national team, and I’m sure they’re keeping an eye on my performance this season,” Đurđević shared with the Alesto Podcast.
Despite this, representing Montenegro is not his main concern at the moment.
“Honestly, I’m not overly worried about the national team right now. At 31, my focus is primarily on the club,” Đurđević explained.
He also recounted how he transitioned from being a promising prospect for Serbia to wearing the Montenegro colors.
“Things didn’t pan out with Serbia. I received one call-up to the senior national team, but it didn’t continue from there… Plus, Serbia boasts fantastic strikers, making the competition fierce,” Đurđević recalled, adding:
“Eventually, coach Radulović reached out and asked if I would represent Montenegro. My answer was yes, as playing for a national team is significant for my career. After all, we were part of the same country until recently, so I didn’t view it as a major change.”
