The beginning was quite challenging, but the Montenegrin water polo team marked their first match in Dubrovnik successfully, securing a victory over France in the first round of the European Championship after five intense games.
“Ultimately, we won what I believe was a well-deserved victory. France displayed their quality, and as we anticipated before the match, they are a team that improves with each passing year,” stated Stefan Vidović.
The Sabadell water polo player expressed satisfaction with how his teammates performed even during challenging moments against the “tricolor.”
“Onward we go; this is a crucial win, and I want to commend the team for their tremendous effort. We demonstrated resilience during times when we missed several chances, but that’s part of the game—points must be earned,” Vidović remarked.
He also shared a message for Montenegro’s fans.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to support us in this match. I encourage more fans to join us, as Dubrovnik is not far, and their presence would mean a lot to us,” Vidović concluded.
Dušan Matković stood out as our top performer against France, netting three goals, all scored in critical moments during power plays.
“The first match in any championship is always the toughest as we acclimate to the environment and the pool. I’m really pleased that we managed to come back from a two-goal deficit to win after five games,” Matković noted.
