We are dedicated to meeting the commitments outlined in the Reform Plan.

The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Northern Development (MERS) is dedicated to meeting the requirements of the Western Balkans Reform Plan, stated Minister Damjan Ćulafić.

MERS reported that he held a meeting with Valentina Superti, the Director for the Western Balkans within the Directorate for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST).

Superti highlighted the significance of Chapter 27 for Montenegro and noted that the country’s accession to the European Union (EU) is drawing nearer.

“I am pleased to observe your hard and focused efforts,” she commented, referring to Montenegro’s initiatives in ecology and environmental conservation.

Ćulafić expressed his contentment with the favorable evaluation of Montenegro’s advancements while acknowledging the extensive work that lies ahead.

Regarding the LIFE program, Čulafić indicated that it serves not only as a source of financial assistance but also as a means to enhance administrative capabilities and expedite integration processes.

He mentioned that Montenegro is actively engaged in aligning its legislation with the EU acquis, particularly in ecological matters.

Discussing the execution of reform agendas, Ćulafić reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to meeting obligations outlined in the Reform Plan for the Western Balkans.

“All legal documents and strategies are being aligned with EU standards, and we are pleased with the timely feedback from the European Commission,” stated Ćulafić.

He briefed Superti on the current status of the Monitoring, Tracking, Verification, and Accreditation System (MRV) as well as the advancements in the Air Quality Management Strategy and the Climate Change Law.

Superti emphasized the necessity of ongoing communication.

“I want to encourage you on this path, as effective collaboration is crucial to successfully concluding Chapter 27,” Superti remarked.

Ćulafić highlighted the importance of a unified vision concerning environmental protection and expressed his willingness to maintain robust cooperation with the EU on all essential issues related to ecology and sustainable development.
