In Tokyo, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić held discussions with Akihiko Tanaka, the Director of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Tanaka showed interest in funding infrastructure initiatives in Montenegro.

During his visit to the agency’s headquarters, Spajić highlighted the “highly successful collaboration” between Montenegro and Japan in cultural exchange and disaster risk reduction, expressing hope for continued joint projects in these areas.

“In the past, we have enjoyed limited but effective cooperation in culture and disaster management. I believe we are now poised to expand our collaborative efforts, especially regarding infrastructure development and investment attraction,” Spajić remarked.

“In line with this, the JICA President conveyed a strong interest in financing infrastructure projects, noting that democratic governance in Montenegro has reached a commendable level, and fiscal stability has significantly improved, forming a solid foundation for successful transport infrastructure development and major projects,” the statement indicated.

Regarding tourism promotion for Montenegro, Tanaka pointed out the effectiveness of promoting Montenegro at the EXPO 2025 World Exhibition. He also noted that the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan had sparked considerable interest among the Japanese public, which is vital for enhancing Montenegro’s visibility.

“The celebration of Montenegro’s National Day was immensely successful, and your visit to Japan remains one of the most discussed topics here. You are an exceptional ambassador for Montenegro,” Tanaka stated.

The two parties concurred that the recent working visit to Japan has laid the groundwork for enhanced cooperation between the two nations in economic and tourism sectors, satisfactory to both sides.
