The opposition is poised to abandon its campaign promises in pursuit of a seat.
During the election campaign in Nikšić, the parliamentary opposition launched an aggressive campaign against the Europe Now Movement (PES), proclaiming their intent to overthrow the government. Today, however, they are urging us to collaborate, the PES Nikšić stated.
“Everything they claimed during the election campaign, they seem eager to disavow now, continuing to manipulate the narrative. They present themselves as the defenders of a civil state, while insinuating that this state is somehow endangered by PES’s collaborations with certain governmental constituents. This is occurring while, in Budva, they are eagerly forming a coalition with a faction of the former DF and celebrating their government formation with songs from Baja Mali Knindža,” the statement reads.
PES Nikšić further emphasized that it is evident “the opposition has become enamored with political roles, whether advisory or otherwise, and they are now prepared to retract everything they publicly stated during the election campaign at PES’s expense in their quest for council seats.”
“Thus, it comes as no surprise that the entire parliamentary opposition (DPS, European Alliance, and URA) managed to secure only one-quarter, or 120 mandates, of the possible 30 council seats in the recent local elections held in three municipalities (Berane, Nikšić, Herceg Novi). Rather than focusing on PES, we believe it would be more productive for them to concentrate on substantive reforms in the upcoming period instead of superficial ones. This approach may eventually place them in a position to, should the citizens choose, become part of the ruling majority in a few years. Until that time, they can find some solace in the fact that the ruling party in Budva, which marks electoral victories with the unofficial anthem of the Kavački clan, is in coalition with Milo Božović’s political group,” declared the PES Nikšić statement.
