“These Paid Students Lounge Around Like Bears”

Following multiple claims that not only students but also extras were being recruited at Pioneer Park in Belgrade, the N1 television team connected with those managing the recruitment, according to reports from the media outlet.

N1 journalist Mladen Savatović investigated the recruitment process, including daily wages and responsibilities.

Milena: Please.

N1: Hello, good day.

Milena: Yes.

N1: Is this Milena?

Milena: Yes. And who is this?

N1: Mladen here from Belgrade.

Milena: How old are you?

N1: I am 28 years old.

Milena: Darling, if you want to be a student, where do you expect me to place you? I can place you in two groups. I could add you to my group, which is older. But for your age, you’re too young. I can try to include you, but I’m not certain. Young people don’t typically join me. I can register you as a student for the same pay. I just need to confirm with the girl. I’m just trying to find out if a student would be interested; it’s €80… Understand this, they are students… are you still there?

N1: Yes, I’m here, listening.

Milena: These students, how do I explain… they’re compensated. They sit or lie around like bears, have a tent, but I can’t disclose the price. I need to see if another group can take you. I think it’s €8,000; it’s comparable. If they’re deceiving me—now you hear me say €50—they are lying. …Everyone here is fabricating stories.

Students calling for a return to classes and protesting the blockade of faculties in Serbia were joined by veterans from the Special Operations Unit (JSO) at a camp established in Pionirski Park, reported the Beta news agency.

Former JSO members set up tents in their uniforms in front of the Serbian Presidency, as reported by a Beta news agency journalist.

Police officers stationed at the Pionirski Park camp detained a man yesterday who, bystanders claimed, was yelling at those gathered.

Numerous tents were erected throughout the camp, adorned with Serbian flags and banners reading “Plenum down,” while a tree bore a sign that said “Street of students who want to study.”
