The Mornar basketball team edged closer to an upset in Belgrade last night, as they fell to Partizan with a score of 24:89 in the 84th round of the AdmiralBet ABA League at the “Belgrade Arena”.
In a tense ending, a three-pointer from Smith allowed Mornar to level the game at 81:81, but Partizan quickly responded to take a 86:81 lead, which they maintained until the final buzzer.
“I want to commend my players and wish Partizan all the best as they aim for the F4 in the Euroleague, which would be significant for basketball in this area. The circumstances are challenging, but I have faith in coach Obradović. He has accomplished this before, and I sincerely wish him and the team success in the upcoming Euroleague matches,” stated Mornar coach Mihailo Pavicevic after the game.
With this victory, Partizan is now tied for the top spot with Buducnost (21-3).
“We anticipated a tough matchup in the sequence of games ahead. Even though Mornar is currently positioned lower, they came out to play and performed admirably. Their three-point shooting was impressive, particularly in the final quarter. I appreciate all the supporters who showed up tonight. Given our upcoming games against Alba in two days and Bayern on Thursday, we aimed to manage our strength and minutes effectively,” said Partizan coach Željko Obradović.
