Basketball players of SC Derbi triumphed over Split (102:24) in Podgorica during the 89th round of the AdmiralBet ABA League, marking their ninth victory in the regional competition.
The match was characterized by the impressive three-point shooting percentage of the “students,” achieving 66.7 percent with 20 successful three-pointers out of 30 attempts.
“We delivered a solid performance; our shooting success stemmed from effective ball movement. We recorded 25 assists, a feat that hasn’t been matched this season. We controlled the game from beginning to end. Given how Split has been playing with coach Mrišić, it was expected to be a high-scoring affair. I hope those in the arena and viewers at home enjoyed the game. This performance gives us hope for our ambitions in the upcoming six rounds,” stated SC Derbi coach Petar Mijović post-game.
Notable performances came from Igor Drobnjak, who scored five three-pointers, following a stint out due to injury. Bogavac and Nil each hit four, while Mirković, Grbović, and Vučeljić bagged two each, with Hadžibegović contributing one.
“Drobnjak has been out since his injury in the Cup. He had a fantastic game at a crucial time, energizing us with his three-point shooting. I hope this builds our confidence. We seem more relaxed now than we did when we secured our survival, playing significantly better than in the first half of the season. Our training has been fruitful, allowing different players to step up,” Mijović elaborated.
Next, SC Derbi will face Igokea on Sunday (17th).
“Igokea is one of the most seasoned teams in the league, known for their competitive nature. They are tough and well-prepared tactically. We need to be ready for various challenges both individually and as a team to overcome a side that is the favorite in this matchup. Our goal is to rest and refresh, focus on effective training, and approach the game with ambition and skill. Our previous encounter with them involved many fluctuations, ending as a close contest. Facing Igokea will not be straightforward, but if we perform at our best, they will find it challenging to beat us too,” Mijović remarked.
