Montenegro-Japan Business Forum Scheduled for Year-End
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić is on his inaugural official working visit to Japan, where he has met with Japan’s Minister of Economic Security, Science and Technology, Kiuchi Minoru.
Geographically, Montenegro is significant for both Europe and Japan. We fully support your endeavors to strengthen the economy and enhance your country’s position within the international community. Both Japan and Montenegro uphold the values of democracy and the rule of law, and there exists significant potential to expand our bilateral cooperation in the realms of economy, science, and innovation, remarked Minister Kiuchi, who hosted a working dinner in honor of Prime Minister Spajić’s trip to Tokyo.
Prime Minister Spajić expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the increasing interest from Japanese investors in Montenegro. He underscored that the visit has established a foundation for intensifying bilateral interactions in the near future.
Recognizing that many Japanese firms operating in Europe have their headquarters in London or Vienna, it was agreed that one of these cities will host the Montenegro–Japan Business Forum by the end of the year. The forum is anticipated to act as a catalyst for enhancing economic relations and business exchanges between the two nations.
We have ambitious plans and aim to forge long-lasting partnerships. I am confident that creating the conditions to open an Embassy of Montenegro in Tokyo by year-end would significantly boost our visibility in Japan and Southeast Asia, stated Prime Minister Spajić.
The discussions revealed numerous opportunities for collaboration—especially in tourism, energy, maritime affairs, railway infrastructure, and disaster risk reduction. It was decided that a team of experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)—whose representatives also participated in the discussions—will visit Montenegro to develop joint initiatives and enhance cooperation across various sectors.
As Minister Kiuchi is also a Member of the House of Representatives, there was interest expressed in forming a Japan–Montenegro Parliamentary Friendship Group, which would further institutionalize and strengthen bilateral relations.
Minister Kiuchi characterized Prime Minister Spajić’s visit as highly successful and expressed his strong belief that it will provide a significant new impetus for deepening ties in all areas of mutual interest.
The meeting also included Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Anđela Jakšić Stojanović and Minister of Finance Novica Vuković.
