Milatović Attends Three Seas Initiative Summit: Montenegro Set to Achieve Associate Member Status

President Jakov Milatović is set to attend the 28th Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, scheduled in Warsaw on April 29 and 30.

Invited by Polish President Andrzej Duda, the host of the Summit, Milatović will join the plenary session and the working dinner alongside fellow European leaders.

Milatović has proposed that Montenegro be granted associate member status at the Summit, a change that would evolve into full membership following Montenegro’s accession to the European Union, as announced by the President’s Office.

This proposal was initially made during last year’s Summit in Lithuania, marking Montenegro’s first participation in the initiative.

“Montenegro’s inclusion in the Three Seas Initiative represents a significant diplomatic achievement and aligns with our gradual integration into EU-related platforms. This is a vital step toward our key national objective — full EU membership by 2028,” the statement indicates.

The Three Seas Initiative unites 13 EU member nations from Central and Eastern Europe, positioned between the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic Seas, and has the backing of key global partners, including the European Commission, the United States, Germany, and Japan, as noted by the President’s Office.

The Initiative emphasizes enhancing the region’s infrastructure, energy, and digital connectivity.

“By participating in the Summit, Montenegro reaffirms its commitment to actively engaging in regional cooperation, accelerated development, and a European future,” the statement concludes.
