On Sunday, Benoît Kunkou triumphed at the European handball championship alongside his teammates from France. Just a day later, he attended an official reception with President Emmanuel Macron on the Champs-Élysées, only to find himself facing serious allegations on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

A Polish handball player from Kjelce was arrested after a 20-year-old woman from Paris accused him of attempted rape, as reported by “Ekip”.

It is alleged that, under the influence of alcohol, he disrobed in a nightclub and attempted to assault the young woman, after which he was restrained by a security guard until the police arrived.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed to “Ekip” that Kunku was taken into custody by the police, where he will undergo questioning.

The French Handball Federation condemned any form of violence on their social media platforms but stated that they are not in a position to comment on this incident further.

Kunku plays as a right winger and was the third option during the European Championship, following Janis Leno and Valentan Porto.
