Antonio Rudiger is facing a potential suspension ranging from four to 12 matches for throwing an ice cube at the referees during the Copa del Rey final El Clasico, which Barcelona secured by a score of 3-2 in extra time.
Despite playing with an injury for an extended period, Rudiger continued until the 111th minute, using an ice pack for his injury until he threw it at the referees during Real Madrid’s last attempt when Mbappe was fouled.
The Real Madrid bench erupted in fury at referee Ricardo Bengoechea’s call, with Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius entering the field, prompting Rudiger to rip open an ice pack and hurl a portion at the official.
His anger intensified after receiving a red card, as images of his aggressive act circulated widely.
“There’s absolutely no justification for my actions last night. I sincerely apologize. We performed exceptionally well in the second half. After the 111th minute, I was unable to contribute to my team and regrettably made a mistake before the final whistle. I once again offer my apologies to the referee and to everyone I let down last night,” the Real defender expressed on Instagram.
Vazquez was also dismissed “for protesting against our decisions, walking several meters onto the field, and displaying his disagreement, while at the end of the match, Bellingham was sent off for an aggressive approach, requiring his teammates to hold him back,” as detailed in the referee’s report.
