Social dialogue serves as a cornerstone of the European model; therefore, it is crucial for Montenegro to advance and cultivate it as a vital component of its reforms and its journey towards European Union (EU) membership, stated Oliver Ropke, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue reported that Ropke is on an official mission to Montenegro, where a working lunch was held yesterday with social partners, hosted by the President of the Social Council and Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue, Naida Nišić.
According to the statement, Nišić expressed her appreciation to Ropke for his visit and his support for Montenegro’s EU aspirations through the enhancement of social dialogue.
“Social dialogue in Montenegro is not merely a European standard; it is the bedrock of a democratic society that seeks to promote fair working conditions, social inclusion, and sustainable economic growth. Your backing in this process holds significant value for us,” Nišić remarked, addressing Ropke.
Ropke highlighted the essential role of social partners in the process of European integration, stating, “Social dialogue is a fundamental element of the European model. Thus, it is vital for Montenegro to persist in developing and nurturing it as a key part of its reforms and path towards EU integration.”
The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue noted that discussions revolved around the role of social partners in European integration, aligning legislation with EU standards, and the necessity of involving civil society in European institutions, even before accession.
In addition to President Ropke and Minister Nišić, attendees included the Vice President of the Social Council and President of the Employers’ Union, Slobodan Mikavica, the Deputy Secretary General of the Union of Free Trade Unions and Council member, and Secretary of the Social Council, Nataša Vukašinović. State Secretaries Anđela Nedović and Anđela Bašović, along with Ivana Šućur, Acting Director of the Directorate for International Cooperation and IPA Funds, also represented the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue,” the statement continued.
The importance of ongoing dialogue between the Government and social partners was emphasized, in addition to anticipated changes in the legislative framework regarding professional rehabilitation and the employment of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that representatives of organizations advocating for their rights are included in the process for creating a sustainable and inclusive labor market in Montenegro.
