NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will provide an update to NBA club executives during today’s Board of Owners meeting regarding the league’s aspirations to strengthen ties with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and its ambitions in European basketball.
This meeting is a valuable opportunity for club owners to engage in discussions and gain insights directly from Silver about the ongoing negotiations.
The NBA and FIBA have been in discussions regarding the introduction of a new annual competition in Europe or the potential establishment of an NBA-run league. This was a subject of conversation at a September Board of Owners meeting, which featured the attendance of FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.
Following the meeting, Silver is anticipated to hold a press conference where he will address the European initiative, providing updates on its current status and future developments.
NBA executives utilized the opportunity presented by the NBA games in Paris this past January to engage with European stakeholders about the future of basketball on the continent.
Silver noted previously that the NBA “remains on track” to establish its presence in Europe, and he also mentioned that NBA owners would receive further updates during the upcoming meeting in March.
