Prior to the draw, it was already established that the Montenegrin basketball team wouldn’t travel to Katowice for this summer’s EuroBasket. The lottery then placed them in Tampere, alongside host Finland, reigning champions Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, and Great Britain.
Montenegro and Germany faced off during the qualifiers, and with Lithuania being a strong favorite along with the world champions, Finland emerges as a serious contender and host team. However, our national team has a viable chance to move to the next stage by securing wins against Sweden (another qualifier rival) and Great Britain.
Our athletes will compete at Nokia Arena, which has a seating capacity of 13,455 and is particularly renowned for hosting ice hockey.
Boško Radović’s squad was patiently awaiting the draw in Riga from the third pot, which also included Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. As Poland is a host nation, it was clear that our team would not share a group with them.
In addition to Katowice and Tampere, EuroBasket will also take place in Riga and Limassol.
Montenegro is set to vie for one of the top four spots in the group, which will lead to the round of 27 starting on August 27th.
The finals of EuroBasket will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
This marks Montenegro’s fifth participation in the European Championship and their third consecutive appearance.
