The Montenegrin water polo team has fallen short of competing for a medal at the European Championship in Zagreb, having delivered a disappointing performance against Italy in the quarter-finals.
Italy secured a 14:8 victory and will face Spain in the semi-finals, while our team now heads to the play-off for placements between 5th and 8th.
“Italy completely deserved the win. We were not a worthy opponent, save for the first quarter. Our attack was severely lacking even with additional players, leading to poor decisions and rising frustration,” commented coach Vladimir Gojković.
Montenegro, having faced Spain and Croatia, was reminded by Italy of the challenges ahead—illustrating that a medal is currently a distant dream.
“We had some strong performances during the tournament, but this was not one of them. We must thoroughly analyze our gameplay and learn for the future,” Gojković added.
