Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, announced today that Kylian Mbappe and Ferland Mendy will be sidelined for the upcoming La Liga clash against Getafe. However, Ancelotti is optimistic that both players will be fit for the Spanish Cup final against Barcelona.
“They won’t be ready for tomorrow, but they will be training in the coming days, and I believe they will be available for Saturday’s match (the Spanish Cup final against Barcelona),” said Ancelotti.
Real Madrid will first face Getafe in an away La Liga match on Wednesday, followed by the Spanish Cup final against Barcelona in Seville on Saturday.
Mbappe suffered an ankle injury last Wednesday, while Mendy is working his way back from a hamstring issue.
Ancelotti mentioned that Mbappe, his team’s leading scorer this season, will “do everything” in his power to be fit for the crucial match against Barcelona.
Having been eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals, Ancelotti admitted his team has struggled to “find their balance” this season. He emphasized that it will be challenging to win the decisive matches ahead if improvements are not made.
Currently, Real Madrid sits second in the La Liga standings with 69 points, trailing first-place Barcelona by four points.
