Recently, it was revealed that Domantas Sabonis would miss EuroBasket, and last night it was confirmed that another NBA talent, Jonas Valančijunas, will join Lithuania’s team for the tournament.
This announcement was made by Lithuania’s coach, Rimas Kurtinaitis. Valančijunas, like Sabonis, had discussions with the national team manager, Linas Kleiza, and confirmed his participation in the upcoming tournament.
“Jonas is on board. He is eager to represent the national team,” said Kurtinaitis.
Valančijunas first competed in EuroBasket with the senior team in 2011, hosted in Lithuania. This marks his sixth appearance at the European Championship, where he clinched silver medals in both 2013 and 2015.
This season, the center has registered averages of 8.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while playing for the Sacramento Kings.
Lithuania will compete in Group B at EuroBasket, accompanied by Montenegro, Germany, Finland, Sweden, and Great Britain.
