The “lionesses” are set to continue their journey through Hungary, Austria, and Switzerland, facing off against Serbia.
Montenegro’s handball team is preparing for two qualifying matches for the European Championship against this formidable opponent, and coach Bojana Popović announced today the roster she will be relying on for the games on February 29 in Zrenjanin and three days later in Podgorica.
Yet again, there was no spot for Milena Raičević, who has remained absent after filing a lawsuit against Budućnost Bemax in November over unpaid wages, and was also left off the roster for the World Cup.
Recently, Milena transferred to Rapid from Bucharest, but it seems she still isn’t in the coach’s plans.
In contrast to the former Budućnost captain, the team includes familiar faces like Dijana Ujkić, Nađa Kadović, Vanesa Agović, and Ilda Kepić, while the core of the squad will be formed by players who participated in the recent Mundial.
Alongside Montenegro and Serbia in the group are Turkey and Bulgaria, with the “lionesses” currently sitting at the top of the table after two matches, boasting a perfect four points.
On the flip side, Serbia could not secure a win against Turkey away and currently trails with one point less.
The top two teams from each of the eight groups, along with the four best third-placed teams, will earn a spot in the EHF Euro.
Furthermore, in April, our national team aims to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris during the events in Ulm.
