Svilar’s Exceptional Performance: Marmuš Establishes Himself as a Key Player

Serie A features numerous exceptional goalkeepers, among whom the Roma goalkeeper undoubtedly stands out as one of the best: Mile Svilar.

The son of the former Vojvodina and Antwerp goalkeeper Rastko Svilar, who also donned the Yugoslav national team jersey nine times, has established himself as Roma’s top performer—this recognition reached its peak this season.

Over the past six months, Svilar has been showcasing remarkable performances, and he played a crucial role in the recent Rome derby—securing a point for Roma against Lazio (1:1).

In this match, Svilar had to fend off numerous shots from his opponents and even came close to conceding an own goal in the dying moments while defending his net alongside Evan Endika. He successfully navigated all of these challenges. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2027, Roma will face significant pressure in the coming months to retain him in the Eternal City.

Silkworms shine in the Apennines, and their prominence is increasingly being recognized in other regions. Omar Marmush, a January acquisition by Manchester City, clearly possesses the talent to play a crucial role in Pep Guardiola‘s plans.

Here’s a look at the standout players from the recent European football weekend:

THE GOALKEEPER

Svilar (Roma) – his stellar performance against Lazio has saved Roma countless times this season. The fact that the “Wolf” has gone undefeated in Serie A since December can largely be attributed to him.

DEFENSE

Van Dijk (Liverpool) – with Mohamed Salah extending his contract, expectations are now on the Dutchman to follow suit. Van Dijk scored the winning goal against West Ham on Sunday, propelling Liverpool closer to the title.

Anton (Borussia Dortmund) – the left back played a pivotal role in ensuring the “millionaires” left Munich with an undefeated record, scoring in the thrilling 2:2 draw against Bayern.

THE MIDDLE

Soule (Roma) – the Argentine demonstrated his mastery during the derby, netting a spectacular goal from about 25 meters that shocked everyone at the “Olimpik.”

Minamino (Monaco) – as the “Princes” demonstrated creativity in the Champions League, the Japanese star mirrored that form in Ligue 1.

De Bruyne (Manchester City) – in just a month and a half, the Belgian’s era at City will conclude. He scored a pivotal free kick that flipped the match against Crystal Palace (0:2 to 5:2), indicating to fans just how much he will be missed.

ATTACK

Arnautovic (Inter) – with a fantastic goal and a magical assist to Lautaro Martinez, the Austrian is emerging as a crucial reserve for Simone Inzaghi as the season draws to a close.

Leao (Milan) – Udinese’s defense struggled to contain him. More accurately, no one can stop him when he’s in form, although the challenge for the Portuguese is maintaining that rhythm.

Marmush (Manchester City) – Guardiola will need to devise a new strategy for the upcoming season; Marmush is among those expected to lead the new “Citizens” team.

Vlahovic (Juventus) – while he didn’t score, he played a significant role in Juventus’ victory against Lecce by providing an assist, fulfilling the expectations of Tudor Igor.

Barnes (Newcastle) – the rapid pace of the “Magpies” was curtailed by Manchester United, yet the two-time scorer Barnes capitalized on opportunities in their quick-paced play.
