It’s alarming that women can endure this kind of assault.
The Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, has condemned the online targeting of civic activist and executive director of the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS), Vanja Ćalović Marković.
“The public sphere, including digital platforms, should remain a venue for the free exchange of ideas, constructive criticism, and informed dialogue, rather than a battleground filled with insults, threats, and dehumanization. It is especially troubling that these attacks are increasingly aimed at women in public roles, clearly designed to dissuade, silence, and undermine them. The fact that women can be subjected to such harassment, often instigated by anonymous or bot accounts and typically politically motivated, is alarming,” Vujović stated.
The Ministry of Culture and Media emphasizes its unwavering commitment to upholding fundamental democratic values, including freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the safeguarding of all public figures from targeted attacks, hate speech, and the exploitation of digital spaces.
“It is heartening to see that these attacks have triggered strong public condemnation and that the objectionable content was swiftly removed. This indicates that, as a society, we continue to make progress—albeit in small steps—toward the right direction. I urge all social and political entities to foster a culture of dialogue, mutual respect, and accountability in public discourse. Let us promote decency, culture, and humanity, which have always been our hallmark,” Vujović concluded.
