The police in Berane have charged a 55-year-old man, MD, with allegedly posing as a police inspector and soliciting a fellow citizen for a sum of one thousand euros to resolve damage to a grave.
This action followed a report from the victim in April 2024, who stated that he received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming to be a police inspector and demanding the payment to clarify the damage to his family grave.
“In accordance with their responsibilities, the police took action under the direction of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Berane. They have submitted a supplementary report related to the criminal case previously filed against an unidentified suspect, specifically targeting MD (55) from Berane for the alleged crime of false representation. It is believed that MD committed this offense on April 17, 2024, aiming to gain unlawfully by contacting a fellow citizen while falsely identifying himself as a police inspector to supposedly address the damage to the victim’s family grave after receiving the requested payment,” announced the Police Directorate.
MD has been taken to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Berane.
