Last night, a clash occurred between riot police and students in Novi Sad, who had been protesting by blocking entrances to the City Hall since midnight. Reports indicate that police used batons against the students, resulting in injuries. N1.
According to the media, around 2:30 a.m., the Gendarmerie emerged from the direction of Stražilovska Street and Mihajla Pupina Boulevard, establishing a presence near the fence in front of the City Hall on Žarka Zrenjanina Street.
The students found themselves caught between two groups of gendarmes, who were pushing them from both sides, while one group maintained position at the main entrance to the building.
At the same time, another group was blocking the back entrance to the Assembly. Riot police came from the courtyard and reportedly charged at the students, who were blocking that entrance, subsequently brandishing their batons and striking them.
Several students sustained injuries, including a female student. The riot police proceeded to push the students toward the gendarmerie cordon and continued to strike those who remained at the main entrance of the Assembly. Ultimately, the gendarmerie intervened to prevent further violence from the riot police.
During the incident, students chanted “Go to Kosovo” multiple times. They attempted to communicate to the police that they were on the same side and that force was unnecessary. They even requested that the officers remove their masks, and the situation eventually calmed down after some shouting and pushing, as reported by Serbian media.
