Recently, Budapest hosted a tournament dedicated to one of the greatest water polo players, Tibor Benedek, where young athletes from Kotor made a significant impact.
The Primorac juniors secured third place in a tournament featuring notable Hungarian water polo teams, including Honved, Vašaš, Ferencvaroš, Solnok, KSI—Benedek’s first club—and Bečej from Serbia.
Under the guidance of coaches Veljko Uskoković and Uglješa Brguljan, the team triumphed over Vašaš (13:12), KSI (15:8), Honved (14:4), and Solnok (16:11), although they faced a narrow defeat against FTC (8:7).
In Budapest, Srđan Janović shone brightly—son of the legendary Montenegrin water polo player Nikola—emerging as the tournament’s top scorer with 18 goals.
Ultimately, Vašaš claimed the top spot, followed by Ferencvaros in second place.
As both a player and coach, Tibor Benedek left a significant mark on the water polo world—securing Olympic gold three times (2000, 2004, and 2008), and leading Hungary to the world title in 2013 against Montenegro from the sidelines.
He passed away in 2020 at the age of 48.
