The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is calling for the immediate resignation of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić.

This demand arises from “a scandalous incident where his relative, Danilo Mandić, shot two individuals, unlawfully operated an official Assembly vehicle, thus endangering public safety and the integrity of the institution.”

“This is a grave offense—attempted murder—implicating a close family member of the Parliament’s Speaker. This situation necessitates clear political and moral accountability. In any democratic nation, the Speaker would resign in such a scenario—not due to legal obligations, but because he recognizes that he is morally unfit to uphold his duties following such events,” the statement asserts.

DPS has also urged authorities to “promptly investigate the misuse of official authority,” emphasizing that “there is no acceptable rationale for an official vehicle being in possession of a private individual during the commission of a serious crime.”

“Given the circumstances, the call for Andrija Mandić’s resignation transcends political maneuvering; it represents the fundamental responsibility inherent to his role. It will be intriguing to observe how Mandić’s coalition partners respond and whether they will uphold their commitment to meritocracy and the European path, or demonstrate their inability to challenge the actual leader of the parliamentary majority—even in such extreme situations,” the DPS stated.
