Radonjic’s Bahçeşehir Falls Short of Eurocup Final

Gran Canaria has secured its place in the Eurocup final after a 76:72 victory against Bahçeşehir in the semi-final held in Istanbul tonight.

Dejan Radonjić’s squad faced their first home defeat of the season in the Eurocup, missing the opportunity for a historic final appearance. In contrast, Gran Canaria has reached the final of this competition for the third time in their history.

Neither team established a clear advantage at the start, but the Spanish side gained significant ground with a 7:0 run in the second quarter, pulling ahead 28:21. Following a three-pointer from Tomason, they extended their lead to nine points at 33:24.

Bahçeşehir fought back towards the end of the first half, scoring eight consecutive points to tie the game at 35:35, ultimately heading into the break with a slim one-point lead at 42:41.

The third quarter saw neither team able to establish a dominant lead, but toward the end of the quarter, Jako Lakovič’s team executed a 7:0 run, securing a 60:54 advantage.

From that moment until the final three minutes, Gran Canaria maintained the edge. However, a crucial three-pointer by Smith shifted the momentum, allowing Bahçeşehir to take a 71:70 lead with just 2:47 remaining.

The match ended in a tense standoff. Homsley scored a three-pointer, granting Gran Canaria a two-point lead at 73:71 as they entered the last minute. Hazer converted a free throw (73:72), followed by Albisi’s free throw (74:72). With just 15 seconds left, Radonjić called a timeout to finalize the strategy, but Smith’s shot missed the mark, leaving Bahçeşehir without a chance at the final.

Homsley was Gran Canaria’s standout performer with 19 points, while Toby added 11 points and Brusino chipped in with 10. For Bahçeşehir, Smith led with 22 points, followed by Hazer with 13 and Odiase with 11, while Marko Simonović concluded the game with a single point.
