Montenegro and Turkey can enhance their economic partnership, particularly in the energy sector, as evaluated during a bilateral meeting at the recent ESG Adria Summit held in Tivat.

The Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, engaged in discussions with the Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey, Fatih Karahan, and the Turkish Ambassador to Montenegro, Bariş Kalkavan, focusing on improving economic collaboration, especially in the energy sector and potential new investments.

Šahmanović highlighted significant interest from Turkish investors regarding projects in Montenegro, stating that the Ministry views Turkey as a vital partner in the energy transition and the enhancement of infrastructure capacities.

“We emphasized the need to solidify cooperation in energy through joint projects and new investments. Turkey possesses extensive expertise in developing and constructing major energy infrastructures, which is especially beneficial for Montenegro as we aim to advance renewable energy sources, where there is clear strategic interest and potential for rapid progress,” the announcement stated.

During the meeting, they also paid special attention to previous collaborations with Turkish organizations like TIKA and the Red Crescent, which have supported development and humanitarian projects in Montenegro for many years.

The discussion also covered successful initiatives from earlier periods, particularly under the former Ministry of Capital Investments, which made significant strides in linking Montenegro and Turkey, including improving air traffic and fostering enhanced economic and tourist exchanges between the two nations.

Šahmanović and Karahan concurred that numerous opportunities exist to deepen their relations, expressing confidence that collaborative efforts will further strengthen political, economic, and institutional cooperation in the near future.
