Adoption of the ANB Work Report; Mandić’s Dismissal Request Deemed Unwarranted

During today’s meeting, the Parliamentary Committee on Security and Defense approved the report on the National Security Agency (NSA) for 2024 without opposition.

“We acknowledged that progress has been made and recognized certain improvements. Thus, we unanimously decided to accept the report. Opposition members were absent for reasons unknown, and they continue to seize every opportunity to critique the ANB’s efforts,” stated Miodrag Laković, an MP from the Europe Now Movement, during a press briefing in parliament.

He mentioned that the issue of appointing a full-time director for the ANB was not on the agenda today. “When we address that, a dedicated session will be held,” he added.

Laković described the agreements signed by the Government with the United Arab Emirates as non-controversial.

“It’s evident that these agreements are being weaponized for political strife against the Government and the parliamentary majority, but this has exceeded reasonable limits,” he remarked.

Addressing inquiries about whether Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić should step down, he urged that the authorities must ascertain all relevant facts, allowing Mandić to form his opinion regarding the political implications.

“I believe the opposition’s demands are unfounded, as no one should be held accountable for someone else’s actions, not even their family members,” he commented.

In response to questions about the citizen, activist, and intellectual protests, Laković acknowledged potential areas for improvement, noting the current lack of discussions regarding investments, land sales, and construction projects.

“People are apprehensive, influenced by the prevailing atmosphere, leading them to protest with genuine intentions. I assure you there’s no cause for alarm. Whether investments proceed based on the agreements will be carefully examined by us as a political community. No one can compel an investment; it’s crucial to have support from local communities,” he concluded.
