Tešanović Advocated for Every Possible Defense
The Montenegro water polo team kicked off the World Championship in Doha on a winning note.
They triumphed over the United States with a score of 16:15, securing two crucial points in their quest for the quarterfinals and assuring their spot at the Olympic Games.
Petar Tešanović stood out as the hero of the match, notching up 14 saves, including five in the high-pressure moments (two during regular play).
“It was a challenging match, just as we anticipated. The Americans possess tremendous offensive capabilities, and our swimming was below par in the first two quarters. However, we displayed great character, stayed competitive, and ultimately prevailed in the penalty shootout, thanks to our captain Petar Tešanović, who made remarkable saves,” commented “Shark” coach Vladimir Gojković.
Nevertheless, this is just the initial step towards our ultimate goal.
“Winning in such a strong group is vital as it boosts our motivation and self-esteem. However, we need to prepare thoroughly for the next match since nothing is finalized yet,” added Gojković.
The next challenge awaits on Wednesday, with Serbia as the opponent at 3:30 p.m.
