The Montenegro women’s cadet handball team faced a setback today, losing to Spain with a score of 22:19 (8:5, 6:5, 8:9) in the fourth round of the Mediterranean Championship held in Podgorica.
This marks the second consecutive loss for the Montenegrin squad at the championship, having been defeated by Croatia just yesterday.
In their first two encounters, they emerged victorious against Italy and Kosovo.
The generation of players born in 2008 and 2009 managed to secure one point from the five possible after the last third against Spain.
Ivana Savić was the standout player for Montenegro, scoring nine goals, while Anđelina Orbović contributed with five goals.
The national team is scheduled for two matches on Thursday; they will face Turkey at 17:15 and Slovakia later that day at 18:30.
According to the tournament rules, each match at the Mediterranean Championship is played in three quarters, each lasting 15 minutes.
A team that wins two thirds earns one point, and winning the match grants them two points. A tie in the third period counts as half a point, and a draw at the end earns both teams one point.
