International allies view Montenegro as a trustworthy collaborator, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he conveyed this during a meeting in London with his British counterpart David Lamy and Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty.
“Montenegro and the UK have established a robust partnership and are eager to enhance bilateral cooperation and inter-state relations,” the statement mentioned.
Ibrahimović emphasized the desire of both Montenegro and the UK to bolster cooperation and connections.
“I am particularly delighted that we have agreed on the framework for a future strategic partnership, which will be formalized through a joint declaration as soon as possible,” said Ibrahimović.
He highlighted the significance of Montenegro being perceived as a reliable partner by international allies.
“I am happy that we have reaffirmed this today here in London, and the UK’s ongoing support for our reforms on the European path is crucial for us,” Ibrahimović mentioned.
He also extended an invitation to Lami to visit Montenegro.
Lamy stressed the UK’s commitment to the prosperity of the Western Balkans and reiterated strong support for the region’s continued integration into the European Union (EU).
He acknowledged the progress Montenegro has achieved in its integration efforts.
Lamy reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation, which he will affirm as the host of this year’s Berlin Process Summit.
“We aim to strengthen cooperation and will continue our support,” said Lamy.
Doughty cited numerous interactions with Montenegrin officials over the past period, including a visit to Montenegro this year.
He expressed assurance regarding Montenegro’s commitment to reforms and adherence to European and Euro-Atlantic values during these interactions.
Doughty confirmed that the UK would persist in supporting Montenegro’s foreign policy aspirations through bilateral engagements and a strong NATO partnership.
The discussions particularly highlighted the importance of enhancing economic collaboration.
“It was mentioned that the Ministries of Foreign Affairs will continue to work on creating conditions for more vigorous economic activity,” the statement noted.
It was also highlighted that there is significant potential for increased cooperation in tourism, assessing that direct air links indicate the strong interest of British tourists in Montenegro.
“Recent global security challenges were also addressed, emphasizing the need for close cooperation and unity,” the statement concluded.
