The quality gap between Buducnost and Sutjeska was evident in tonight’s match near Bistrica, resulting in a 3:1 victory for the “blues” from Podgorica.
This game further highlighted the significant 29-point difference in the standings, confirming it’s not merely coincidental.
Podgorica’s team is once again on the brink of clinching the title—the champagne is ready, and the countdown has officially started.
Led by Ivan Brnović, the team holds a 17-point lead over second-placed Petrovac with a game in hand, continuing an impressive streak in Nikšić. Buducnost remains unbeaten in their last 16 championship matches and has not lost to Sutjeska in 13 encounters.
Sutjeska’s last victory against Buducnost dates back to September 2021, and it seems they’ll have to wait at least another four years for another chance. Their next opportunity will come in August with the start of the new season…
While Sutjeska is desperately vying for a European spot, needing to secure third place and hoping for Petrovac to win the Cup, Buducnost showed no sympathy for their struggles.
From the onset, Buducnost established their dominance on the field, asserting their position as the leaders and future champions.
The first major opportunity, however, belonged to Sutjeska.
In the 20th minute, during their initial dangerous attack, Dragan Miranović struck the crossbar with a powerful header, and Balša Tošković, despite being in a good position, failed to capitalize on the rebound, hitting the guests’ defender Serikov instead.
From that point on, it appeared that Sutjeska wouldn’t find the net even if the match extended for two more days. They did, however, manage a consolation goal towards the end, following a significant error by the visitors.
This match shared similarities with their February battle against Gorica (which ended 2:0 in favor of Buducnost) and the October showdown with Bistrica (1:0). Put simply, Buducnost is a cut above all their league rivals, including Sutjeska.
In the 29th minute, Ognjen Gašević intercepted a careless pass from the home team’s defense and unleashed a spectacular shot from about 20 meters out, giving Buducnost the lead.
The game was momentarily halted after Buducnost scored due to skirmishes in the eastern stand – the away fans, arriving at that moment, faced a hostile welcome from the home supporters.
Events quickly settled down, and the visitors regained control of the match.
In the remaining time, the home team posed little threat (with just one shot on target by Argentinean Arbeljo), and the match was effectively sealed by a brilliant solo run and finish from Ivan Bulatović in the 66th minute—he weaved past the Sutjeska defense after carrying the ball nearly 50 meters.
Buducnost attempted to restore some hope for the hosts in the final moments when Andrija Bulatović got tangled up, allowing Dragan Miranović to break through and score, reducing the deficit to 2:1 in the 89th minute. However, deep into injury time, a blunder from Nikšić’s goalkeeper Stojan Vukčević led to a straightforward finish by Ivan Bojović, finalizing the score at 1:3.
The remaining matches of the 29th round of the Meridianbet 1. CFL will take place tomorrow, featuring Arsenal vs. Dečić (14:00), Mornar vs. Jezero (15:00), Bokelj vs. Jedinstvo (15:00), and Otrant vs. Petrovac (18:00).
