Serbia’s 16 Sonic Devices Obtained Illegally During Vulin’s Tenure as Interior Minister
Miroslav Aleksić, the President of the People’s Movement of Serbia (NPS) and a Member of Parliament, announced today that Serbia has a total of 16 sonic devices designed to emit sound waves. He urged the prosecution to promptly take action against Aleksandar Vulin, who served as the Minister of Internal Affairs during the acquisition of these devices.
During an appearance on N1 television, Aleksić revealed that on October 18 and 19, 2021, nine LRAD 100X devices and seven LRAD 450XL devices were purchased illegally.
“Five of these devices are stationed in Gendarmerie units and detachments located in Belgrade, Niš, Kraljevo, and Novi Sad; three are with the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), while five are held by the Belgrade City Police Department. Despite Vladimir Orlić, the head of the BIA, stating yesterday that these devices do not exist, we have evidence to the contrary. The entire world has witnessed the footage. The operation took place; we now need to identify those responsible and their sources,” he stated.
Aleksić mentioned that Gendarmerie vehicles were present throughout the city during the rally in Belgrade on Saturday and pointed out expert indications that a person in civilian clothing was operating the LRAD 450XL device from within the crowd.
“This device functions by modulating both its strength and range, creating an effect similar to the sound of an airplane taking off. The impact starts at the legs, moves to the stomach, and then reaches the head. It is configured so that the intensity diminishes in width, causing the most discomfort to those in the middle of the protest, as visible in the footage. The effect is designed to reduce the likelihood of breaking glass and windows,” Aleksić elaborated.
He condemned the deployment of the ‘sound cannon,’ labeling it a ‘terrorist attack’ against citizens who were peacefully honoring the victims in Novi Sad.
