Mrdak and Roganović Advance to Baku Tournament Semifinals
Montenegrin boxers Strahinja Mrdak and Matija Roganović have progressed to the semifinals, ensuring bronze medals at the “Heydar Aliyev” international junior tournament in Baku.
Luka Otašević concluded his journey in the quarterfinals.
Mrdak secured his spot by defeating Uzbekistan’s Zhavokhir Govmidinov in the quarterfinal match of the 50-kilogram category.
A member of the Budva Boxing Club, he previously eliminated Georgian Dimitri Beraj in the round of 16.
Next, he will compete against Russian Mikhail Sharipov for a chance to reach the final.
Roganović earned his semifinal spot in the 80-kilogram category by defeating local athlete Elvin Ahmadli via unanimous decision.
Earlier, he had eliminated Kazakhstan’s Adil Medelkahanan in the round of 16.
His semifinal opponent will be Umarjov Nazarov from Uzbekistan.
Otašević was unable to reach the semifinals as he was defeated by Russian Mukhamad Useinov in the quarterfinals of the 46-kilogram category.
Tomorrow, Nikola Raičević will compete in the quarterfinals in the 48 kg category, while Andrija Nikitović will compete in the 52 kg category.
Accompanying the Montenegrin boxers in Baku are three coaches: Boško Drašković, Slavko Mrdak, and Petar Marčić.
