Ibrahimović Meets with UN High Commissioner Türk

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović held a meeting today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, who is currently visiting Montenegro.

Ibrahimović expressed his gratitude for the High Commissioner’s inaugural visit since Montenegro regained its independence, viewing it as a testament to the excellent cooperation, partnership, and trust in Montenegro as a responsible and credible member of the UN.

He reaffirmed Montenegro’s robust commitment to multilateralism, highlighting the nation’s belief in the essential role of human rights and the UN in tackling global challenges. “We appreciate the High Commissioner’s independent perspective and clear voice, seeing the enhancement of multilateralism as crucial for addressing numerous global issues,” the Minister stated.

The Minister also pointed out Montenegro’s leadership in the European integration process as a demonstration of the country’s societal maturity, vision, and commitment to incorporating European standards—particularly in human rights and the rule of law—into its legal framework.

The discussion also touched on the increasing effects of global challenges and the significance of upholding multilateralism, the fundamental principles of international law, and human rights. Special attention was given to Montenegro’s multiethnic and multireligious identity as a reflection of its dedication to human rights and universal values.

Both officials exchanged perspectives on current regional matters, agreeing that adhering to human rights and the rule of law is the strongest defense against harmful external influences.
