Kukaj’s Trial Delayed Due to His Absence from the High Court

The trial of Ganija Kukaj from Gusinje has been postponed today at the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje, where a hearing was previously initiated in the case from the Basic Court in Berane.

As per the indictment, on an unspecified date in November 2020, Kukaj, in his capacity as an investor, proceeded with the construction of a commercial and residential building in Bedluci, Gusinje. This included pouring the ground floor slab, constructing stairs, and other related works, despite a prohibition order from the Chief Republic Inspector for Pljevlja and Žabljak, Zorica Čolović.

The postponement of the hearing occurred because the defendant was absent. Judge Ivan Adamović noted that there was no evidence confirming the summons had been delivered to him.

Kukaj maintains his innocence regarding the charge of “constructing a building without proper registration and construction documentation”, stating that he obtained a building permit from the Municipality of Plav in 2014 for constructing a floor, attic, and business premises. He emphasized that his construction activities complied with the legal framework of that time, arguing that the case against him is motivated by the political agenda of certain leaders in the Municipality of Gusinje.

The hearing has been rescheduled for May 20th.
