The police in Kolašin apprehended a 38-year-old Military Police officer from Podgorica on charges of threatening police officers after being stopped by a traffic patrol and found to be driving under the influence, according to an announcement from the Police Directorate (UP).
“Officers from the Kolašin Security Department arrested ZB (38) from Podgorica, a Military Police officer, who made serious threats towards the police after a traffic patrol, which he was attempting to evade, caught up with him and ascertained that he was driving while intoxicated. ZB was not on duty during this incident,” the UP statement outlined.
The report indicated that on April 16, around 4:30 PM, in the Bakovići area on the Kolašin – Mojkovac main road, police attempted to stop a “VW Golf V” with Danilovgrad license plates, which was traveling from Mojkovac towards Kolašin.
“The driver disregarded the clear ‘stop’ signal from the police officers and continued driving. The officers immediately pursued him, activating their lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop and veered off the main road towards the village of Plana, presumably trying to evade capture. Eventually, a police patrol caught up with him, stopped the vehicle, and proceeded with a check,” the statement detailed.
During the check, ZB identified himself as a member of the Military Police of Montenegro in an effort to evade further police actions.
It was determined that ZB had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.74 per mille.
“After realizing his efforts were in vain and he would be detained for a violation of traffic laws, as confirmed by the breathalyzer test showing 1.74 g/kg of alcohol, ZB began protesting, claiming the police had no authority to stop him. He then threatened the officers with job loss and escalated to challenging them to engage in a physical altercation. Subsequently, ZB was taken to the Kolašin Security Department. He did not resist arrest, and no force was employed against him,” the statement detailed.
The UP informed that the state prosecutor at the Kolašin Basic State Prosecutor’s Office had also been notified of the incident, indicating that ZB’s actions contained fundamental elements of the criminal offense of assaulting a public official in the execution of their duties, and instructed police to detain him and present him along with a criminal report.
“On the same day, ZB was brought before the Regional Offenses Authority for an offense related to driving under the influence of alcohol, where the judge confirmed the offense but deferred punishment consideration. ZB was then presented to the competent prosecutor on April 17, 2025, who questioned him on suspicions regarding the aforementioned criminal offense against the police officers, after which he was released to defend himself in further proceedings,” the UP stated.
