After a prolonged and serious illness, the renowned Yugoslav and Serbian journalist Nadežda Gaće (1950-2025), who was the founder and editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine Novi Magazin, sadly passed away last night, according to announcements from her family and the editorial team at Novi Magazin.

Nadežda Gaće was born in 1950 in Inđija. She completed her high school education in Split and pursued studies in Yugoslav literature and Serbian language at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. Her journalism career began in 1974 at Radio Television Belgrade (RTB), where she advanced to become an editor and commentator.

Following the notable Eighth Session of the Central Committee (CC) of the League of Communists of Serbia (LCS) in 1987, she was suspended from her role as editor-commentator at RTB, subsequently resigning to pursue journalism at Jutel and Ljubljana’s Delo. After Jutel’s closure and the disintegration of the SFRY, she contributed to Borba, Naša Borba, and Danas, and in 2011, she established the publishing company Agenda 2020, along with the weekly magazine Novi Magazin and its online portal.

From 2006 to 2010, she served two terms as the president of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS).

Nadežda Gaće has left a significant impact on the media landscape, authored several prominent books, and is recognized as a dedicated advocate for human rights, being one of the founding members of numerous respected non-governmental organizations.

Details regarding the time and place of the funeral will be announced later.
