The architect behind Denver’s remarkable run, culminating in the Nuggets’ sole NBA championship in 2023, has been relieved of his duties today.

Mike Malone’s departure was confirmed by the trusted NBA insider, Shams Charania.

This change comes after a decade of collaboration between Malone and the franchise.

Charania also reported that David Adelman, a recent assistant, will take over as head coach.

Currently, Denver remains competitive in the Western Conference, sitting at fourth place. However, the coaching change was likely influenced by the team’s recent struggles, having lost four consecutive games and seven of their last ten.

Nonetheless, making such a decision just before the playoffs is undoubtedly surprising.
