VIDEO: Fire Breaks Out at Kotor Utility Company Workshop; No Injuries Reported

Fire incident, Photo: SZS Tivat, SZS Kotor

A fire broke out at the Kotor Public Utilities Company’s facility in Kavče shortly before 10 a.m. this morning, with the cause still under investigation. The blaze caused substantial material damage, as the structure housing the technical workshops and administrative offices was nearly completely consumed by flames.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported because all employees had evacuated the premises in time.

It is a relief that the fire did not impact any of the Utility Company’s specialized vehicles stored at the site in Kavče. This could have led to even greater material losses and would likely have hindered the company’s ability to fulfill critical public service duties, such as maintaining cleanliness and community hygiene in Kotor.

The entire personnel and equipment of the Protection and Rescue Service of Kotor were engaged in firefighting efforts, with assistance from the Protection and Rescue Service of Tivat.

An investigation into the fire’s cause is currently underway.

Additional support for extinguishing the flames came from the Luštice Bay Emergency Services, volunteers from the “Krtoli” and “Boka” Fire Departments, teams from Kotor’s Waterworks and the Tivat Municipal Company, as well as several private transporters with tanker trucks.

Maksim Mandić, the Kotor Fire Department chief, described the operation as demanding and risky, given that the burning workshops contained acetylene and other gases in pressurized containers, along with other highly flammable materials.

“We received the call at 9:45:14 a.m. and immediately deployed almost all our available resources for a challenging intervention. With help from our colleagues and various groups, we managed to contain the fire within approximately an hour and a half, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and equipment. The damage remains significant,” Mandić stated to “Vijesti” around 5 p.m., adding that they are in the final stages of extinguishing lingering small fires in the ruins.
