Messi Guides Inter to Champions League Semi-Finals
Inter Miami’s squad secured a spot in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, triumphing over Los Angeles with a 3-1 victory in the second leg at home tonight.
After Los Angeles claimed a 1-0 win in the first leg, they took an early lead in the second leg with a ninth-minute goal from Aaron Long.
In the 31st minute, Lionel Messi had a goal disallowed, but just four minutes later, he equalized with a stunning goal. Messi then assisted Noah Allen, who scored the first goal for Inter Miami in the 61st minute.
Teammate Luis Suarez also had a goal ruled out for offside six minutes later, and Messi sealed the match with a penalty in the 84th minute.
“We poured our hearts into this game. We were eager to reach the semifinals, and it showed… Luck was on our side this time. The players had confidence,” expressed Inter coach Javier Mascherano.
This marks Inter’s inaugural appearance in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The Miami team is set to face the Vancouver Whitecaps, with the first match scheduled for April 22, 23, or 24.
“This is the essence of the game. They gave everything they had. I’m extremely proud,” Mascherano added.
