The head coaches of EuroLeague teams have expressed their support for the leadership and strategic direction of the EuroLeague, as announced by the EuroLeague Coaches Committee (EHCB) today.
“We firmly believe that the EuroLeague stands as the premier league outside North America. European basketball is thriving, and this evolution requires recognition through actions rather than mere words,” the EHCB stated in a release today.
Following a meeting on Monday, April 7th, club coaches have also backed the Commercial Assets Committee (ECA).
“As the coaches of the most successful competition in European history, shaping the basketball landscape for the past 25 years, we believe the future of the sport in Europe is extraordinarily promising, and we are just beginning to uncover the potential basketball holds in this region,” the EuroLeague Coaches Board emphasized in their statement.
The NBA recently announced its exploration of launching a rival league in Europe in collaboration with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The EHCB’s statement highlighted that the EuroLeague has been pioneering evolution in basketball for the past 25 years, “creating a true league that unites every stronghold of basketball across Europe and remains open to anyone sharing this vision.”
With its unique combination of on-court talent and fan engagement, the EuroLeague is globally acknowledged as the leading basketball league, the statement concluded.
“While we take pride in expressing our views and acknowledge that further progress is possible, we must not overlook what has already been achieved both on and off the court. We emphasize the importance of teamwork… Collaborations with anyone looking for progress are welcome, as long as they respect existing accomplishments and aim to build on them,” the statement read.
