Ancelotti Faces Growing Pressure
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is facing criticism following the defeat to Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, according to reports from Italian media.
“Gazzetta dello Sport” noted that even if Real were to overcome a three-goal deficit (having lost 3-0 at the Emirates), it might not be sufficient for Ancelotti to retain his position at the club.
Both “Gazeta” and “Republika” have indicated that Xabi Alonso, currently coaching Bayer Leverkusen, is viewed as the ideal successor to the storied Italian manager.
Madrid’s “As” has also reported that Ancelotti met with president Florentino Perez upon his return from London. During the meeting, Perez communicated that only winning a trophy (either La Liga or the Champions League) could secure Ancelotti’s role beyond the summer.
Despite the uncertainties, Ancelotti remains a strong candidate to manage the Brazilian national team, although Jorge Jesus is currently seen as the frontrunner for the “Carioca” position.
