Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced today that there are three or four potential candidates for the role of prime minister-designate tasked with forming the new Serbian Government. He emphasized that he will only engage in discussions with parties showing interest, to avoid creating a “circus.”

“Upon returning from Brussels next week, I will speak with representatives from political parties. To prevent any chaos, I will only converse with those who wish to engage. Those parties that have a majority should determine who they desire as prime minister-designate. I expect they will seek my advice; I hear they have shortlisted three or four names. I will share my opinion, but whether they accept it is entirely up to them,” Vučić stated while visiting the Toplica and Jablanica regions.

Regarding the events in Niš from the previous night, he remarked, “We must remain calm and refrain from retaliating in kind.”

“From what I understand, wherever eggs are thrown at someone, everyone feels compelled to retaliate. We must avoid acting out of vengeance. I urge the public to await the response from the state and its authorities. Last night, the police response was quite inadequate,” Vučić remarked.

He further commented that government opponents are proposing “a stripped-back dictatorship where no one would be allowed to think differently; they would impose a regime akin to that of the Khmer Rouge.”

Following the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally in Niš, which was called off due to security concerns, a nearby citizens’ rally was also disrupted as a strong police presence cordoned off the area.

Subsequently, the crowd threw eggs and stones at SNS representatives, and footage surfaced on social media showing Niš Mayor Dragoslav Pavlović being pelted and splashed with water, captured by student Matija Nikolić, who was later taken to a police station in Niš.
