PES Should Not Endorse Kovačević

The Europe Now Movement (PES) should engage in discussions with the coalition For the Future of Nikšić (ZBNK) and the Democrats regarding the formation of a government in Nikšić, but it should abstain from supporting Marko Kovačević for mayor, stated PES official Darko Dragović.
During a broadcast on the Television of Montenegro, Dragović noted that, based on current projections, the future government in Nikšić will hinge on PES votes.
He mentioned that it is expected, given the coalition at the national level, that they negotiate power with the ZBNK coalition and the Democrats.
“There is no doubt about whether we should align with ZBNK or the Democrats in Nikšić. However, there is significant disagreement within PES regarding the support for Kovačević for mayor. Personally, I assert that PES, as a civic movement, should neither support Kovačević nor may do so in this case,” Dragović remarked.
He further stated that the final decision will be made by PES bodies, and he will respect their resolutions.
Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) official Oskar Huter commented that Kovačević ought to be the future mayor if the ZBNK list gains the most votes, arguing that any other arrangements for the sake of political seats would be unprincipled.
“If DPS secures the highest percentage of votes, it is evident that it reflects the will of the citizens,” Huter stated, emphasizing that DPS has obtained more mandates compared to previous local elections.
Democrat official Tamara Vujović remarked that the party’s statute expressly prohibits forming a coalition with DPS.
She added that the election outcomes indicate that the majority of Nikšić and Herceg Novi residents believe Montenegro is heading in the right direction and oppose DPS policies.
