The M-2 highway reconstruction project, covering the stretch from Bijelo Polje to the Dobrakovo border crossing, is valued at 11 million euros (excluding VAT) and is funded through a loan from the European Investment Bank. The work is set to commence at the end of this summer.

This information was provided by the Traffic Administration in response to inquiries from “News.”

“For the reconstruction of this primary road, measuring 10.5 kilometers from the ‘Voli’ supermarket to one kilometer prior to the Dobrakovo border crossing, the Traffic Administration announced a tender last year following the EIB procurement guidelines, resulting in the selection of the company Bemax as the contractor,” stated the Traffic Administration to “Vijesti.”

The project includes various improvements, such as road reconstruction, the addition of three new roundabouts, sidewalks, bus stops, and storm sewer systems.

The objective is to initiate the road reconstruction at the end of this summer to minimize congestion on this route, which serves as one of the primary entry and exit points for the country. The work is expected to be completed within 550 days from the commencement date.

The Administration emphasizes that this reconstruction, along with improvements on all regional and main roads, will be instrumental in enhancing traffic safety.

“As this route serves as a transit link between two countries, enhancing transport infrastructure will facilitate the movement of people and goods,” the Transport Administration noted, adding that they are consistently engaged in projects aimed at building and repairing main and regional roads, including addressing bridges, tunnels, and landslides to improve infrastructure and traffic safety.

Additionally, a separate project focused on the rehabilitation of the M-2 highway section from Bijelo Polje to Barski Most, beneath the city landfill (specifically addressing the Dobrakovo landslide), began on March 11th of last year.

“These rehabilitation works are scheduled for completion by September 11th this year, but it is anticipated they will be finished before the onset of the summer tourist season.”
