Domination: Herceg Novi Secures Title Defense

The Herceg Novi volleyball team secured the Montenegrin championship title for the third consecutive season.

During the third match of the EPCG Super League final series, the Novljanke triumphed over Buducnost Volej with a score of 3:0 (25:21, 25:18, 25:16), becoming the first women’s volleyball team in Montenegro to achieve a triple crown by also winning the Super Cup and the Cup this season.

The first set at SC “Igalo” was hotly contested until the very end, where the home team, after a closely fought game totaling 40 points, surged ahead with a decisive 4:0 run, wrapping up the set at 25:21.

Building on the momentum from the first set, Herceg Novi started the second set explosively, extending their lead to +8 (22:14), while only allowing 18 points to the young team from Podgorica.

The debutants in the final found themselves at a disadvantage, as Herceg Novi dominated the closing stages of the third match, quickly establishing a 7:1 edge and reaching 12:8 while staying ahead of all their opponents.

Coach Srđan Crnojački’s squad clinched the title with a score of 25:16.

Herceg Novi has claimed all available trophies since the project’s inception along the coast, whereas Budućnost has carved out a notable chapter in its club history.

They achieved a significant milestone by eliminating the most decorated Montenegrin club, Luka Bar, in the semifinals, marking the first playoff for the title in the club’s new era. Notably, they became the only team to defeat Herceg Novi during the regular season over the past three seasons.

In the final match, Herceg Novi was led by Ralica Vasileva, who scored 16 points, with Ana Marija Galić and Darija Čabonenko contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively. Montenegrin players Gordana Madžgalj and Marija Bojić each added six points for their team.

Almost every player from Buducnost scored, with Mileva Magdelinić leading with eight, Kristina Božović finishing with six, and Milena Ćetković adding five.

The cup for the champions was presented to Herceg Novi’s captain by Nikola Kažić, the president of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro.

Gold medals were awarded to the players and coaching staff of Herceg Novi by Ksenija Božović and Mina Dragović, members of the OSCG Board of Directors.

Silver medals were presented to the Buducnost team members by Miloš Mitrović and Zoran Vukčević, the president and director of the Podgorica club.

Medals were also given to the referees of the title match, Jelena Mitrović and Slobodan Kovačević, as well as supervisor Anka Ivanović, by Nikola Pješčić, the director of the competition commission.
