Aleksandar Ljumović, a 42-year-old Montenegrin national, was apprehended in Sofia, Bulgaria, based on an Interpol red notice.
According to the Police Directorate, Ljumović is part of an organized criminal syndicate.
The NCB Interpol Podgorica issued a red international arrest warrant for him to ensure his attendance in the criminal proceedings currently underway at the High Court in Podgorica. He faces allegations of four criminal offenses: three counts of establishing a criminal organization and one of aggravated murder through assistance.
“Thanks to months of intensive collaboration between Montenegro’s Targeted Search Team and the Bulgarian counterpart, this senior figure in an organized crime group was located and arrested in an affluent area of Sofia. Further interactions between the judicial bodies of Montenegro and Bulgaria are expected, as well as continued communication between NCB Interpol Podgorica and NCB Interpol Sofia to facilitate his extradition to Montenegro,” the police stated.
They also noted that since the beginning of the year, 18 individuals have been arrested abroad under international warrants issued by NCB Interpol Podgorica, while 22 arrests have been made within Montenegro based on international warrants.
